THE BRIEF:

Covering 62-hectares, the Birkdale Community Precinct master plan encompasses the redevelopment of the heritage-listed Willards Farmhouse and surrounds, a historic WW2 radio tower and the development of the Redlands Whitewater Centre, which is set to host 2032 Olympic water sports. The opportunity for Redland City Council and Edge Studio to collaborate on this  two-phase project was a truly unique one.

PHASE ONE:

The focus of  this initial phase was to  garner community feedback which in turn would inform the Council’s Vision Document, a precursor to the precinct’s draft Master Plan. Edge Studio was engaged to create a suite of well-crafted videos which would pique the communities interest to respond. With a focus on design possibilities, history and legacy, Edge Studio created stories with urban planners, historians, relatives of the Willard family and Quandamooka elder, Uncle Bob. Each film highlighted a different element of the Birkdale Precinct’s potential and became an effective catalyst for community engagement and conversation.

PHASE TWO:

To promote the completion of the draft Master Plan and inform the community, Redland City Council approached Edge Studio to develop a film that was future-focused and a reflection the community itself. The result is a heart-warming film featuring children from the Redland’s community as they explore the precinct and talk about their hopes and dreams … there is even a surprise visit from Ranger Stacey!
